Blue Wave Life is a Family of Martial Artists that offers intensive martial art training and self-defense application for all its students and encourages Family unity by offering family discounts. Our goal is to encourage each individual to strive for excellence in all aspects of their life and to touch each member of a family unit.

The purpose of Blue Wave Life is to foster and encourage strong family bonds through physical activity utilizing Martial Arts and the principles it follows. We teach self-discipline, respect, perseverance, and confidence to each student, instructor, and owner. A good atmosphere and attitude focus on the idea that participants are students and teachers to encourage humility, friendship, and mutual respect.

What is Tae Kwon Do?

It is more than just learning a few moves, earning a belt, and going to tournaments. Tae Kwon Do is (and should be) a complete martial arts system passed down from Master to student for generations and involves your whole person. Mind and body training is the idea.



Learning perfect control, explosive power, composure under stressful situations, and dynamic leadership are just a few topics that are part of the learning process. The training here is very vigorous, which leads to a very high fitness level. There is a definite structure to the curriculum, so you have a good idea of where the training is going. And, while the training method is authentic with very old roots, our studio and teaching methods are very up-to-date.

About Blue Wave Life

Blue Wave Life Martial Arts was founded by Doug Flora and his wife, Jane Flora, in 2014. We were first established on Delmar Avenue in University City and have since relocated to Brentwood Community Center with the mission to bring traditional Tae Kwon Do training to Mid County St. Louis in an affordable way.

Blue Wave Life teaches a traditional style of Tae Kwon Do, known as Chung Do Kwan, which translates to the Blue Wave School. Chung Do Kwan traces its roots back to the Chinese martial art known as Tang So Do. (See our history section for more information)

Many people begin their Tae Kwon Do journey by looking for a regular fitness class or basic self–defense and find themselves gaining much more.

In our classes, students will engage in cardio fitness, strength training, and muscle development; however, the benefits go far beyond fitness and self–defense.

Many students quickly notice a change in mental focus throughout their lives and have more clarity of thought. Often young students see an improvement in grades and discipline within the home, and adults find growth in their ability to maintain focus and multitask.

Martial Art training is truly a journey; each student progresses at different rates. Student training year-round and individual training is an excellent extra-curricular activity for students and parents to participate in together. We were founded as a family and believed in supporting families through disciplined training and discounted family rates.
